myLIFE - Personal Project
In the next six years the number of people who live with dementia in the UK is set to rise by 15%*. This means that there is going to be an increase in the number of people who live with dementia and live by themselves due to family living too far away.
This project looked at the development of a mobile application for people who live with dementia, as well as developing a way for the next of kin and careers to keep an eye on the person living with dementia.
This included the development of the myLIFE brand, persona of the target user group (people living with dementia), development of high-fidelity prototypes for both sides of the mobile applications, and a working prototype of the person living with dementia side of the mobile application (for iOS).

mYlife Brand Identity
Following research into what dementia is, alongside user research into the daily routines of people living with dementia via the a user persona was developed. This persona was used to help design the wireframes for the final mobile application design and functionality.
This persona focuses on only Vascular Dementia, though the final high-fidelity and developed prototypes were designed for the multiple different types of dementia which can affect a person.
The first stage of this project saw the development of wireframes for the mobile application. It would be these wireframes which would be used for the final design of the mobile application and turned into high-fidelity prototypes.
The final designed screens for the person living with dementia side of the mobile application. These screens include a Medication Reminder, Memories (In the form of photos), Therapy (To help combat stress & anxiety), Mentally Stimulating Games (To help reduce cognitive decline), Time & Calendar (In an easily readable format and updates with events inputed by the next of kin) and a S.O.S feature (Which can be activated by the user, or when the mobile application detects a fall).
The next of kin/carers side of the mobile application was developed so that the user can keep an eye on how the person living with dementia is doing. As well as gain the support and information they would need to make sure they can support their loved ones.
In order to complete this the next of kin/carers have access to: the Heath Stats of the person living with dementia, Information on Dementia (Allowing the user see when new information would be uploaded), List and Links to Support Groups, Access to the person living with dementia Calendar (To add/amend any events which would be viewed on their mobile), Add/Edit Photos in the person living with dementia photo gallery, Alert when S.O.S feature is activated, and access to the person living with dementia myLIFE device once these have been developed in the future.
These high-fidelity designs were then developed into into high-fidelity prototypes and sent out to the next of kin/carers of people living with dementia to get feedback on the UI/UX design. All of the feedback (none can be shared due to GDP policy) showed positive results allowing for the development of the person living with dementia side to go ahead.
myLIFE PRototype walkthrough video
Following the design of the high-fidelity prototypes, the person living with dementia side of the mobile application was developed using SWIFT into a functioning prototype for iOS.
Though this prototype is fully functioning, further development of the mobile application will see the integration of an A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) component to act as a companion for the person living with dementia. AS well as the development of a wearable to help keep track of the person living with dementia 24/7.
